May Yonge McNeer was born in 1902 in Tampa Florida, and died in Reston, Virginia. She was a prolific author of children's books, many of which were illustrated by her husband, Lynd Ward. Her books covered many different topics. McNeer said that she preferred researching and learning about new things, to using the same backgrounds over and over.
